For those who follow all things folk/country/Americana in all shapes or forms the title of the new Alex Dupree album is no mystery – it is a quote from country music legend Hank Williams who said that writing a song is just like talking to the dog. And judging what Dupree offers us here, he surely knows how to write them and play them (along with all the guests on this album). The only mystery that might remain is whether Dupree has a dog and what breed it is.

Yet, you can make a guess that is not exactly an ordinary one, as Dupree’s music veers through all aspects of modern folk/singer-songwriter/Americana music, a sort of a cross between The Jayhawks and Bonnie Prince Billy (at his most melodic), with other musical elements thrown in, and not only for good measure, but with an obvious sense and purpose. A hidden gem for any fan of any of the above genres.
