M. WOODROE RELEASE BRAND NEW SINGLE “CARTE BLANCHE” VIA VENN RECORDS
DEBUT EP THE TREATMENT OF FRACTURES ARRIVES SEPTEMBER 18
Brighton newcomers M. Woodroe share raucous new single “Carte Blanche”, out today (August 5th), marking the second reveal from debut EP The Treatment of Fractures (pre-order here), set for release September 18th via Venn Records (High Vis, thistle., Opal Mag, Night Swimming).
The follow-up to acclaimed lead single “Sweetness, Sweetness” out earlier this summer, “Carte Blanche” is unforgivingly centred around fascism, violence and fighting back. It showcases the quartet at their most opaquely political and on the nose with lines such as “you sip champagne through stolen teeth” almost spitting at you in its ferocity.
Shooting out of Brighton’s DIY scene, the moody alt-rockers have quickly established themselves as one of the city’s most exciting emerging acts. Led by intricate political and provocative lyrics and followed by a bed of raw angular guitar noise, the four-piece’s image, lyrics and sound are boundary-pushing contemplations of gender, sexuality and desire that are certainly difficult to pin down to genre archetypes.
Newly-signed to esteemed indie label Venn Records, M. Woodroe have already gained airplay across BBC Radio 1 and BBC Introducing, as well as press plaudits from The Line Of Best Fit and Rough Trade. Ticking off shows alongside the likes of Mclusky and Prostitute; their notoriety as an intense, refreshing, and powerful outfit is certainly growing at an impressive rate, with a full autumn live plot and further EP teasers imminent.
Detailing their newest release, enigmatic frontwoman Marcie Garwell revealed: “‘Carte Blanche’ is about fascism, violence and fighting back. It started with just myself and my acoustic guitar and then morphed into the grungy crowd favourite that it is now. I’ve taken a lot of inspiration from the tongue-in-cheek and playful ways folk singers incorporated historical context into their songs – notably Woody Guthrie, Lead Belly and Pete Seeger.”
M. Woodroe’s “Carte Blanche” is out now via Venn Records and available on all digital platforms.
M. Woodroe is Marcie Garwell (vocals, guitar), Ben Elwin (guitar), Jeorgie Pinder-Whiley (bass), Sam Sezarin (drums)
