SLOVENLY RECORDINGS

From Rotterdam, NL, comes the gritty punk/post punk of J.C. Thomaz and The Missing Slippers. Reportedly this debut album was two decades in the making and now it is unleashed into the unsuspecting world. The self-titled album is fun, rock, grit, dirt, sex, and punk, jammed into 40 minutes. It explodes, it screams and it is, at times, beyond description.
J.C. Thomaz and The Missing Slippers are having fun, that is for sure. While they might not take themselves seriously, they certainly take their music seriously. The music is expertly played, well produced and beautifully sequenced. The album is like a well-planned trip into chaos.
They have come up with 13 songs that are meant to entertain while assaulting your ears. One can only imagine these songs performed live. While they wear their influences on their sleeves, the band still creates their own distinct sound. A song like “Gimme Your Love” certainly channels The Cramps, while a song like “Kirsty” does tap into Suicide. And the band surfaces with some psychedelic rock with “Astaroth.” The diversity of sounds does keep things interesting.
And while there is some diversity throughout, and some influences showing through, this is still a J.C. Thomaz and The Missing Slippers album. The album is loud, aggressive, angry and very funny at times. Ending the album with “Shit On The Street”, which could be The Clash circa 1978 crossing paths with Johnny Thunders, is a prime example. The band is crude and unapologetic for some of their humour, but that is what makes J.C. Thomaz and The Missing Slippers such a great album.
