MARGARITAS PODRIDAS
METALES PESADOS
HOPELESS RECORDS

With Metales Pesados, Margaritas Podridas deliver a third album that feels both refreshed and unmistakably their own. While the band leans into a more upbeat rhythmic pulse this time around, they never lose the raw edge that defines them, anchored, as always, by the distinctive voice of their lead singer, Carolina Enríquez, whose tone moves effortlessly between vulnerable and explosive.
The record opens with “Tornillo,” a track that immediately sets the mood through a catchy yet chaotic riff. It surges forward with urgency before coming to an abrupt halt barely a minute and a half in—a bold structural choice that signals the band’s willingness to disrupt expectations. “Mugre Morada” introduces a raspier vocal delivery layered over sharp, cutting guitar textures. That high-pitched, almost piercing sonic quality becomes a recurring feature throughout the album, surfacing in unexpected bursts.

“Cabeza De Metal” leans most explicitly into the album’s title, flirting with heavy metal and straightforward rock influences. Subtle rhythmic shifts and compact transitions give the song a dynamic edge that distinguishes it from the surrounding tracks while reinforcing the conceptual thread.
Though much of Metales Pesados preserves the spirit of the band’s earlier work, the shift to Spanish-language lyrics marks a significant evolution. It grounds the album in a clear Mexican identity, adding depth and immediacy to their storytelling.
Overall, the album feels flexible and accessible for listeners eager to explore a modern wave of grunge. The band’s youthful energy is palpable—what may initially sound reckless reveals itself as carefully structured, harmonically thoughtful songwriting.
