JOE’S TRUCK STOP
THE MAGNOLIA SESSIONS
ANTI-CORP

When a record company, in this case it is Anti-Corp, has a long-running series, there is bound to be a flop here and there, particularly if that series is directed at live in the studio recordings.
Yet, if you go through Anti-Corp’s Magnolia Sessions, you just might have a hard time finding a flop, and one of the most recent ones recorded by Joe’s Truck Stop certainly isn’t in the flop category. Often working as a loose collective, Joe’s Truck Stop operates under the auspices of one Joe Macheret, who is dubbed as songwriter, folk musician, storyteller, traveller, organizer, and generally alright guy. Listening to the seven tracks recorded for these sessions, you simply get the feel that all of the above apply, as Macheret led the charge on guitar and vocals, joined by fellow musicians Stephen “Tebbs” Karney on dobro and backing vocals, Ilya Portnov on harmonica, and Joe Wunderle on guitar and backing vocals.
It all simply falls in the right place here, you do get a feel that these four guys are jamming, beautifully, at a remote truck stop. All that is missing is the sound of a singular truck honking its horn as it passes by.
