MATT HITT – “CARRIED AWAY”
A SPILL EXCLUSIVE MUSIC PREMIERE
Today, Welsh-born, New York-based artist Matt Hitt shares his debut solo EP, You’ll Be Lucky, out now via Killphonic Records. Produced by Timothy Lanham of The Vaccines, the five-track collection captures Hitt’s trademark blend of wistful croon and melodic introspection.
You’ll Be Lucky takes its title from a phrase Hitt’s father used to say—meaning “well, I doubt that’ll happen.” The songs wrestle with that sentiment, balancing cynicism with a flicker of hope. “They’re either in belief of or rejection of that feeling,” Hitt says. “Melancholic but hopeful, I suppose.”
Highlighted today with the release of a lyric video, the EP’s focus track “Carried Away” is a nostalgic indie rock gem. Lyrically, the tune captures the blur of intimacy and self-reflection — a plea for calm from a mind that won’t stop racing. Both wistful and anthemic, “Carried Away” delivers a melody that lingers long after it fades.
After fronting the indie outfit Drowners—who released two LPs via Frenchkiss Records and toured with Foals, Cage The Elephant, and Arctic Monkeys—and more recently serving as touring guitarist for The Vaccines, Hitt steps fully into his own voice on You’ll Be Lucky.
You’ll Be Lucky and “Carried Away” are out now via Killphonic Records.
