SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: WARREN HAYNES – THE WHISPER SESSIONS

Warren Haynes

WARREN HAYNES
THE WHISPER SESSIONS
FANTASY RECORDS

The magical world of Warren Haynes, our visionary GRAMMY® Award-winning maestro, is buzzing yet again. This distinguished artist, celebrated as one of the finest guitarists and soulful vocalists of our time, has just whipped up a delightful musical treat — The Whisper Sessions! Released into the wild on September 12, this charming album features enchanting, stripped-down versions of handpicked tracks from his recent LP, Million Voices Whisper.

Imagine peeling back the layers of an onion — except in this case, it’s all about rich melodies and heartfelt emotions. With The Whisper Sessions, Haynes lays bare his soulful vocals, dazzling guitar wizardry, and masterful storytelling. Each note from this collection feels like a warm hug.

Haynes, a member of the legendary Allman Brothers Band, the electrifying Gov’t Mule, and the ever-dynamic The Dead, is like the favourite uncle at a family gathering, captivating everyone with tales that bridge generations.

With singles like the mesmerising “These Changes,” which features Derek Trucks, who is a co-writer of the song. And the gems “You Ain’t Above Me” and “From Here On Out” echo the passion that made Haynes an icon.

The collection pays homage to the past, offering reimagined versions of the beloved Million Voices Whisper singles. “This Life As We Know It” and “Real Real Love,” featuring Trucks, whose lyrics were initially started by Gregg Allman.

The Whisper Sessions is the heartbeat of America; you don’t want to miss out on this beautifully crafted sonic love letter!

My love for music and writing has led me to be a music journalist. My favorite music era is the 70s. I want to help save the music from that era, so it is not forgotten, and writing about it helps me do that.
