ST. ARNAUD – “MORNING DREAMERS”
A Spill Exclusive Video Premiere
“Morning Dreamers” is a song about loss, filtered through the experience of the final morning Ian St. Arnaud and Will Holowaychuk spent with their bandmate Luke Jansen went for a run and was hit by a commuter train in Edmonton, AB, dying instantly. The video is a loose allegory for that moment. Written and produced by Ian St. Arnaud and directed by childhood friend Jesse Bulman, the video follows quirky queer couple Danni and Allina, in their massive heritage home, living their best life as a couple as they have their privacy invaded by a surveillant alien presence. Monitored in washrooms and hallways, the final straw comes during a moment of interrupted intimacy, when the duo and a ragtag friend mob ensnare and destroy the insurgent surveillance drone. Without a proper script, the piece morphed into a piece of process art about unease with a fun, cathartic climax.
Artist Quote
“Honestly, the video, as with any art project, came out entirely differently than I intended, with its own collection of charms and edges that I couldn’t have planned for.” ~Ian St.Arnaud.
