MATTHEW NOWHERE – “ECHOES STILL REMAIN”
A SPILL EXCLUSIVE VIDEO PREMIERE
Today we have the pleasure of revealing the new single from Bay Area artist Matthew Nowhere. “Echoes Still Remain” is the second single shared from this synthtastic record, which is self-released and due out on May 23. The first single, “Love Is Only What We Are”, is also a stunner.
With 80s-influenced electro pop at its core, the video is an engaging with the sexy synth-laced background music that often accompanied artists like Chaka Khan and Yazoo back in the day, as well as Jan Hammer (think Miami Vice). Here, Matthew Nowhere brings analogue sounds into our modern realm with slick vocals, catchy melody and good vibes.
Pulsing with retro-electronic energy, this music seemingly winds and oscillates at the same time, using contrasting elements of illumination and shadow. Featuring a seductive, synthesizer-driven foundation, this recalls classic era productions by such artists as Visage, Alphaville and Human League, albeit with a greater reverie factor.
Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area and currently residing in California’s Nevada County in the forests of the Sierra Mountains, Matthew Nowhere uses authentic analog production styles in creating deeply authentic and soulful music that speaks to the power of love to overcome all obstacles. As vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and producer, Matthew Nowhere explores the synth and tape-laden sounds of the 1980s with inspired reverence. Emerging from the intersection of old and new, his unique music weaves deep vibes and poetic lyrics with gritty New Wave beats.
As seasoned as he might sound, his record Crystal Heights is actually his debut effort with a whopping 13 tracks on offer. And we are delighted to find out that two of the tracks will feature the immense talent that is Hawaii-Salt Lake City dreamgaze duo Lunar Twin. Never a weak moment when it comes to anything they touch. We look forward to also hearing the rest of this album.
Matthew Nowhere shares, “‘Echoes Still Remain’ comes out of exploring ideas about the artistic process itself – the way in which a lonely whisper of inspiration in an artist’s mind can take flight and become realized as a concrete work. And in those rare cases, something that started as just a personal vision might even become immortal, something that lives on, becoming all these different things to different people.”
About the Crystal Heights album, listeners can expect to be swept up in this love letter to the 1980s as Nowhere celebrates and pays homage to the new wave greats while, at the same time, giving us the soundtrack we should want to live life’s great moments to, here and now.
While the album will be released on Limited Edition transparent blue vinyl and as a digital download, this “Echoes Still Remain” single is available from fine music platforms, including Apple Music, Spotify and Bandcamp. The album is now available for pre-order.
