Once upon a time…Orion Sage Ohana was born in Oakland, CA to DJ & Producer parents. The genre-less artist, also known as Evanora:Unlimited, has created a genre-smashing record in Perfect AnswerΒ **released 2/22**, which arrests you right at the start. Today, they are releasing a music video for “No Country” off their new album. The song is an upbeat and relentless chanting of an industrial-punk incantation, a sickening prayer… The video depicts Orion duct taped to a tree as the camera moves kinetically in a kind of fever dream. It’s like Blair Witch on acid. Chainsaws, blood, and girls in underwear swarm Orion as they yell, “Trust me, the candles won’t burn very long / Lusting, for a life after tasting her/ No country, for old men let them die alone / A machine celebrating anything at all…”Β What they didn’t know was that they were invoking something sinister while filming, and the events that followed were surreal.
Orion recounts, “…After filming ‘No Country’, I felt with everything inside of me that I had accidentally done something very wrong and dark. It was unspoken ’til later, but we all did… There was a thick energy in the air as we walked back through the woods to where we could call a taxi home. And after getting back to my apartment, I swear on all that I love, I was fully possessed by something… My partner eventually came and tapped me on the shoulder and asked if I was okay. I responded, in a voice almost completely not of my own, ‘I’m not okay…I’m not okay,’ then quickly turned around and sat on a daybed in a corner of the apartment, where I violently hyperventilated like a scene from the exorcist while my friends watched speechlessly… I’d had zero awareness of any of this happening… After that, way too coincidentally, we just happened to come across a religious painting which scarily depicted exactly the scene we had just shot in the woods… I was sent into a full on psychosis as I frantically did research for hours and hours until the early morning.Β Nothing of the following was planned; there was zero direction…, and I knew absolutely nothing about the following until after the video.”
The painting Orion and their friends had encountered was of St. Sebastian, who was an archer (just like the constellation of Orion)… “He was invoked as a protector during many plagues… He was initially tied to a post or tree and shot with arrows, though this did not kill him as was rescued and healed by Saint Irene. However, shortly after his recovery he went to Diocletian to warn him about his sins, and as a result was clubbed to death.”
