LEMONDAZE ANNOUNCE NEW EP SUBTEXT OUT DECEMBER 5 | SINGLE “POLARI” OUT NOW | TOUR DATES
VENN RECORDS
Lemondaze today announce new EP subtext – out 5th December via Venn Records (Meryl Streek, CLT DRP), and today release the EP’s crushing lead single “polari”. The band have also announced a UK headline tour for December.
Heralding a new chapter for the Cambridge-based four-piece, whose immersive blend of post-rock, shoegaze, and grungy emotional weight has quietly built them a cult following across the UK underground, new single “polari” follows August single ‘o(type)‘ and their much-talked about debut at ArcTanGent.
From the first moment, “polari” is both brutal and beautiful – its weighty low-end, rich harmonic layers, and moments of fragile clarity echo the influence of Curve and Deftones, while doing something entirely its own. Beneath the distortion lies a vivid sense of nostalgia, with the band drawing on memories of sun-kissed euphoria and summer recklessness.
Speaking on the song’s creation, lyricist and vocalist Isis de Chastelain said:
“I wrote the lyrics after we played Green Man Festival in 2022; it was the most magical time in the most beautiful place with my best friends. The track itself has this nostalgic feeling to me, summer, getting drunk with your best friends, being young. That’s what the lyrics are for me, going ride or die on the craziest adventure with the people that mean the most to you. The song itself came together during a Covid-fuelled fever dream when Finn and I were quarantining together. It was 4 days of playing Lego Batman and Halo 3, making Swedish meatballs and writing “polari” (it was originally called ‘eggs box 420’ – lol).”
Produced and mixed by Matt Glasbey (Sorry, Alt-J), new EP subtext was recorded between sessions in London and Brighton in 2024 and represents a revitalised incarnation of Lemondaze – marking their first body of work since their thrilling yet raw 2021 debut EP ‘Celestial Bodies’.
In the years between, Lemondaze have been quietly shaping their identity in the shadows through constant gigging, sonic experimentation, and a deep connection to their values. Their music blends ferocity with fluidity, solitude with true noise – and their signing to Venn Records marks a clear statement of intent, joining a label known for launching some of the UK’s most cutting-edge punk, hardcore, and alt-rock artists, including High Vis, Meryl Streek, and Bob Vylan.
With a sound rooted in shoegaze and post-rock but unafraid of breakbeat, grunge, or pop structure, they’ve earned praise from legends like Miki Berenyi (Lush) and Andy Bell (Ride), and shared stages with Ride, bdrmm, Just Mustard, deathcrash, Fat Dog and more.
With upcoming EP subtext, Lemondaze are no longer waiting in the wings. Their first new music since 2021 marks both a re-introduction and a reclamation. As the band put it: “This is Lemondaze at our rawest and most pure. A single brain cell shared.”
Lemondaze’s new EP subtext is out 5th December on Venn Records. New single “polari” is out now. The band tour the UK in December.
