HOLY FUCK ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM EVENT BEAT
AWAL
The Canadian quartet Holy Fuck, comprised of Brian Borcherdt, Graham Walsh, Matt ‘Punchy’ McQuaid, and Matt Schulz, is returning with their highly anticipated new album, Event Beat, out March 27th. Leading the announcement is the hypnotic first single, “Evie”, which serves as the calling card for the upcoming record. Renowned for their distinctive approach to electronic music, which prioritizes the human touch, the band keeps every element as live as possible, eschewing laptops and click tracks for a raw and real energy.
The single “Evie” is described as an ‘infinity loop’ for listeners who find themselves playing the album on repeat. Released alongside a visual composed of live footage, directed by Colin Medley, the video captures the band in their natural habitat: fully immersed in the analog gear and instruments that brought not only “Evie,” but the entire record, to life.
Event Beat marks Holy Fuck’s first full-length release in six years, following 2020’s Deleter. After spending two years entirely apart, the group reconvened in 2022 inside a rural Nova Scotia village hall, where new song ideas flowed freely. Living and working together in isolation, the band created at least half the album in this setting. Across the record, the focus remains firmly on the four musicians, with no guest vocals, marking a progression from methods used on previous releases. Borcherdt describes a recurring motif throughout the
album as a sense of momentum ‘towards something that is beyond personal control, either at the mercy of some bigger system or some unspoken will.’
The past few years have also brought renewed momentum for the band. Notable sync placements, including “Lost Cool” in the award-winning film, The Substance, and “Tom Tom” in Amazon Prime’s hit series, Invincible, have introduced Holy Fuck to a new generation of listeners. Yet the forthcoming record doesn’t chase this new attention so much as it deepens the band’s own language. The album signals forward motion while staying true to the principles that have always guided Holy Fuck: a commitment to collective energy, physical performance, and the unfiltered connection of musicians creating in the moment. With Event Beat, the band hopes that what listeners ultimately ‘take away from it is an appreciation of the togetherness and humanity in the music.’
