THE MAD MILE – “FOUR IN A CASE”
INDEPENDENT
The Mad Mile is a coming together of musicians and producers Adam Pickering and Matthew Goodbody around their shared desire to explore, blend and reimagine post-punk, post-rock and shoegaze into a sound that evokes the bleakness and beauty of growing up amongst the windswept urban decline of Northern England and the isolation and regret of leaving it.
Based in London, both Adam and Matt have rich and varied musical pasts, featuring in successful 00’s indie (The Sneakypeeks), punk (Needs Fire) and (General Admin) bands as well as producing for other artists and projects.
After making waves with the dark, melancholic debut EP Skyliner, shoegazers The Mad Mile have made an unexpected shift toward a more commercial sound. Applying their brooding and dreamy tonal palate to a punchier, higher tempo groove delivers a cool, danceable but distinctly melancholic feel. Working with Dan Cox and Urchin Studios (Pete Doherty, Thurston Moore, Laura Marling) has added gloss and energy to an already sumptuous mix.
The track tells a story familiar to most of moving to a new city and living with strangers. It captures the feeling of isolation amongst peers, but also determination to push through.
