PASSION PIT CELEBRATE 10th ANNIVERSARY OF GOSSAMER WITH NEWLY EXPANDED DIGITAL EDITION & SPECIAL EDITION VINYL | AVAILABLE JUNE 2
COLUMBIA RECORDS/LEGACY RECORDINGS/FRENCHKISS RECOORDS
Passion Pit has unveiled a somewhat belated tenth anniversary edition of their RIAA Gold-certified 2012 sophomore album, Gossamer. Now expanded with two previously hard-to-find fan favorites, the critically acclaimed album arrives at all DSPs and streaming services via Columbia Records and Legacy Recordings, the catalog division of Sony Music Entertainment, on Friday, June 2. Special edition vinyl featuring the original album tracklist will be available via Passion Pit/Frenchkiss Records that same day. Gossamer (Expanded Edition) is available now for pre-order HERE.
As noted, the upcoming digital release of Gossamer (Expanded Edition) includes two extremely rare tracks, “American Blood” and “Almost There,” both of which will be streaming globally for the first time ever having originally been included on the album’s 2012 Japanese CD release as bonus tracks.
Passion Pit will celebrate the anniversary with their first live show in nearly four years, a very special co-headline performance at the upcoming OUTLOUD Music Festival @ WeHo Pride, set for at West Hollywood, CA’s West Hollywood Park on Sunday, June 4. Limited tickets for the star-studded event remain available now HERE. For updates, please visit www..passionpit.com.
Originally founded as the one-man project of Boston, MA-based singer-songwriter Michael Angelakos, Passion Pit immediately earned worldwide applause for their open-hearted and adventurous musical approach, fusing exhilarating electronic pop with a deeply personal songcraft. The band burst into the forefront of post-millennium pop with 2009’s RIAA Gold-certified breakthrough debut album, Manners, highlighted by the Platinum-certified hit single, “Sleepyhead.” Passion Pit spent much of the next few years on the road, playing to increasingly larger crowds while Angelakos set to work writing songs for their now eagerly anticipated second LP.
Evincing both a darker lyrical tone and vivid sense of rhythm and sonic adventure, Gossamer made a spectacular top 5 debut on the Billboard 200 upon its July 20, 2012 release by Columbia and Frenchkiss Records, also arriving at #2 on both the “Top Alternative Albums” and “Top Rock Albums” charts – Passion Pit’s highest placement to date. Produced by Angelakos with longtime collaborators Chris Zane and engineer Alex Aldi, the collection includes such iconic singles as the 2x RIAA Platinum-certified “Take a Walk,” “I’ll Be Alright,” “Constant Conversations,” and “Carried Away,” all of which are joined by companion music videos currently boasting more than 70M combined views via YouTube.
Gossamer was met by ecstatic critical applause from high-profile media outlets across the globe, with Pitchfork bestowing “Best New Music” honors upon the album, writing, “Three difficult years in the making, Gossamer is an overwhelming album about being overwhelmed, a bold and ultimately stunning torrent of maximalist musical ideas, repressed anger, and unchecked anxiety.” Rolling Stone later named the collection among its “50 Best Albums of 2012,” declaring “…It’s high-end dance rock as John Updike might have it.”
Because of his candid discussion of mental health following the release of the record, Angelakos was honored with the 2013 Beatrice Stern Media Award, which recognizes individuals who have used the media to erase the stigma of mental illness.
Angelakos followed Gossamer with two further Passion Pit albums, 2015’s Kindred and 2017’s Tremendous Sea of Love, as well as a musical film co-written with writer and musician Brent Katz, 2016’s Merry Christmas, Mr. Fields, and “I FOUND U,” a hit 2019 collaboration with Swedish electronic duo Galantis. That same year saw Passion Pit return to the live stage for a North American headline tour commemorating the tenth anniversary of Manners.
