NOA ZIMMERMAN’S “EMPTY AND DIVINE” CHRONICLES CONSTANT CONFUSION AND SPORADIC CLARITY
INDEPENDENT
Noa Zimmerman has made a point to present herself and her art as authentically as possible, creating human-to-human connections with relatable messages that resonate. With five albums and two EPs already part of her discography, the burgeoning singer-songwriter and filmmaker is continuing to carve her own path with a new single, “Empty and Divine,” out now.
The song finds Zimmerman learning how to operate on multiple levels of consciousness: finding a way to be functional in the day-to-day and also how not to hold on to everything so tightly that it’s impossible to be in awe of existing at all.
“’Empty and Divine’ came at a time when I felt like I was always taking the path of most resistance, always pushing back against everything life was throwing at me instead of opening myself to it,” she says.
The video is a time capsule of her 20s, a way to revisit the joy she’s found and a reminder of the wisdom she learned along the way. Most importantly, that losing your sense of self is a blessing in disguise—it gives you the freedom to stop taking it all so seriously.
Zimmerman was the first woman to complete the Music Production major at USC’s Thornton School of Music, and the first person to complete a double major within the Popular Music Program. In the years since, she’s made it her mission to ensure her career reflects her belief in the responsibility of artists to push society forward by using their platforms to raise awareness about injustices, and inspire others to take action to create positive change.
In March 2020, Zimmerman co-founded and became Executive Director of the Artivist Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to amplifying the voices of activist artists, and connecting them with local and global communities to advance social, racial, environmental, and economic justice.
