CHARLS RETURNS WITH VULNERABLE NEW SINGLE “HEADS UP”
THE ARTIST FORMERLY KNOWN AS CHARLOTTE JANE RE-EMERGES WITH AN INTIMATELY POWERFUL NEW ERA
After a year and a half away, British singer-songwriter CHARLS (f/k/a Charlotte Jane) makes her return with the vulnerable new single “Heads Up,” available now on all digital streaming platforms – listen HERE or watch the lyric video below or HERE.
Marking her first release under her new artist name and her first new music since May 2023, the single introduces an evolved creative chapter for the London-based artist. Previously co-signed by Elton John and Lewis Capaldi, CHARLS steps forward as an independent artist with an ambitiously honest and emotionally intimate sound. “Heads Up” serves as the first glimpse into a larger forthcoming project — a deeply personal body of work chronicling heartbreak, healing, and self-discovery.
Written with Phil Simmonds, “Heads Up” is a poignant warning about naive young love and learning how to let go of those who cause harm. The stripped-back track showcases CHARLS’ pure vocal delivery and vulnerable storytelling, setting the tone for an album that captures the real-time unraveling and rebuilding of her heart.
“Every single lyric of this song is true,” CHARLS shares. “It felt like I was potentially being too specific at the time and that no one would ever be able to relate, but on reflection, I think that’s the magic of it. It’s understated, almost like a folk song, but it really stays with you. I don’t think it’s the ‘in your face’ song of the record, but it’s one that will grow organically — there’s just something about it.”
“Heads Up” arrives as CHARLS’ first offering since rebranding from her previous moniker Charlotte Jane. Formerly signed to RCA Germany and initially discovered by GRAMMY Award-nominated producer Toby Gad (Beyoncé, Fergie, Jessie J, John Legend), CHARLS now embraces full creative independence with a renewed sense of authenticity. Her forthcoming debut album tells a step-by-step, real-time story of love lost and self reclaimed — a project that captures empowerment through vulnerability. With previous support from Billboard, CLASH, Wonderland, The Line of Best Fit, and more, CHARLS has earned critical praise for her soulful vocals and introspective songwriting. She’s opened for the likes of Lewis Capaldi, Tom Odell, Jess Glynne, and Bastille, and performed at major festivals including Reading & Leeds, Lollapalooza Berlin, and Isle of Wight.
As she reintroduces herself to the world, CHARLS is ready to reclaim her narrative – this time on her own terms.
