BROKEN BABY GET THEIR GLAM ROCK ON WITH NEW SINGLE “IT’S ONLY ROCK AND ROLL (BUT I HATE IT)”
POOR MAN RECORDS
“Holy shit this is the loudest song I’ve ever heard!” ~Fan On The Internet
The first single of 2023ย from LA’s glam-rock-punk-blah-blah-blahsย Broken Baby,ย “It’s Only Rock and Roll (But I Hate It)”ย goes head first into yet another time-honored controversy: is rock and roll dead? Does anyone care? With her signature wit and charisma, lead singer Amber Bollinger delivers the evidence of rock and roll’s demise with her sonorous snarls, asking “What is this? A guitar?” to which the choir answers “Put it in a museum!” All set against the backdrop of guitarist and producer Alex Dezen’s crushing riffs and beats. At almost two and a half minutes,ย “It’s Only Rock and Roll (But I Hate It)”ย is a blistering indictment by a band that pulls no punches lyrically or sonically. โ
โAre we joking? Kinda. But also, not really. Maybe we should talk about how everyone is a rock star now. I hate it. Rock and roll used to be dangerous. It’s like dinner theater now.ย But also, who cares. But also, we do. A lot.โ
Formed byย The Damnwellsโ Alex Dezenย and former actor and Ohio all-state high jump championย Amber Bollinger,ย the duo started making music afterย Bollingerย had been on tour withย Dezenย in 2017. Throwing all inhibition out the window, the pair started to play their own brand of melodic, yet raw post-punk, delivering their self-titled debut EP that very same year. Naturally, live shows followed in and around L.A., with Broken Baby making a name for themselves with their incendiary performances. The band’s last LP, 2021’sย Late Stage Optimism, saw the duo grace the cover of renowned Los Angeles publication LA Weekly.
