SHINING MIRRORS – “FAVORITE TV SHOW”
A Spill Exclusive Musicย Premiere
“‘Favorite TV Show’ is a love song that plays off of the relationships we have with the TV shows we watch,” says Drew Robinson, vocalist and guitarist for Brooklyn-based trio, Shining Mirrors. “Making plans, wondering whatโs going to happen next, laughing together.”ย “‘When I enter the room I turn you on,'” he continues, reciting a lyric from the tune. “In another time, poets wrote about agrarian life and the steam engine. Today we live in a world of streaming services and smart phones. I want a song that illuminates the beauty of daily life, the kind of mundane beauty that just as easily goes unnoticed.”ย “Favorite TV Show” along with the other four songs that comprise the new Shining Mirrors self-titled EP (out this Friday), are examples of a sound that the band calls “dark garage.” It’s not a bad way to describe the group, but doesn’t go far enough in describing the quality of Robinson’s songwriting itself — youthful, but rooted in classics.ย ยท
