RISE CARMINE – “RAZORBLADES”
A SPILL EXCLUSIVE MUSIC PREMIERE
Rise Carmine, AKA Toronto multi-instrumentalist Liam Colbert has released :”Razorblades” a bouncy psych-rock nugget in the vein of Unknown Mortal Orchestra and Toro Y Moi.
“Razorblades” is a subtle yet anthemic catharsis; a warm embrace from a friend reassuring that the worst is over. The song opens with a poignant line offered up in a sultry slightly raspy tone by Liam; “your razorblades, they don’t cut so deep anymore”, suggesting that the once sharp weapons we used against ourselves have dulled, and that we’ve developed a thick skin.
“I wrote this song as a message to the people in my life who are going through a tough time. Writing something very personal like this is a form of therapy for me and my good friends who I feel could benefit from this message”.
Colbert’s smooth, silky vocals honed from years spent at choir school shine through the jangly acoustics and a thumping bass motif that anchors throughout. The song slowly builds to its climax with a thunderous chorus – “I promise you we’ll come down – It’s not always going to be this way”. A reminder that things usually get better with time. At its core it is a song about perseverance.
“Razorblades'” is the first of many singles to be released off of Rise Carmine’s debut album, which will be out this summer. The single is a perfect introduction to his unique sound.
