WINTERFOLK XXI BLUES & ROOTS FESTIVAL
@ KENSINGTON MARKET, TORONTO
FEBRUARY 24-26, 2023
Toronto’s Annual Winterfolk Blues & Roots Festival celebrated its 21st anniversary this past month. This year it was held within the bohemian neighbourhood of Kensington Market at several renowned local venues: Free Times Café, Taco Taco, Supermarket, Church of St. Stephen’s (two stages) and Trinity Common.
Everyone in attendance was excited to enjoy a winter weekend filled with amazing music and great energy provided from a lineup of over 100 performers.
The festival showcased some of the most talented blues and roots musicians including three-time Juno Award winners Sultans of String, eight-time Maple Blues Award winner Gary Kendall Band, Jazz Violinist of the Year Anne Lindsay and many more artists.
Brian Gladstone, the Winterfolk Festival Director, noted that there is a sense of community at Kensington Market that emits a completely different vibe than anywhere else in the city. And I would have to agree with him – KM was the best choice for hosting this year’s Winterfolk 2023.
