CANADIAN MUSIC WEEK 2024 – SONIA DELEO

Sonia Deleo graced centre stage for the last show of Wednesday at The Paddock Tavern. The bar was dimly lit and sparsely populated, yet Deleo took advantage of the intimate setting by delivering a powerful performance to end the night. Hailing from Calgary, Deleo brought the prairie’s coveted sound to Toronto for Canadian Music Week. She prefaced many of her songs with stories behind their creation. “Out Of The Shadows” is a song Deleo wrote for an addiction centre in Calgary with a focus on LGBTQ youth. Through intense lyricism and some slam poetry, Deleo is able to bring these stories to life and tell them authentically. The crowd, while small, was mesmerized by her performance. Definitely an artist I will be checking out!
