THE TAJ MAHAL SEXTET
SWINGIN’ LIVE AT THE CHURCH IN TULSA
LIGHTNING ROD RECORDS
For some musical masters, no matter what genre they are working within, it just might be hard to keep it at your best for decades. Even more so if they have wandered through genres or roots and world music (or both) throughout their career.
Yet for Taj Mahal, blues, roots, rock, and world music master who has been around for some 60 years or so, that doesn’t seem to be much of a problem. As the English usually say, the proof is in the pudding, and this time around Taj delivers that pudding, in a new album Live At The Church In Tulsa.
With a set of some incredible backing in the form of his Swingin’ Sextet, the master has decided to go back straight where he started, the good old blues in its purest (electric) form and that mastery that has not left him so far shines, both in his, the band’s playing and Taj Mahal’s always incredible vocal delivery. Not much else to ask for here, really.
