As The Plot In You has progressed in their musical journey, their sound has undergone significant transformation over the past six studio albums. Initially characterized by heavier tones and intense instrumentation, they have gradually shifted towards a more expansive and melodically intricate sound. This evolution reflects a broader approach to their music, where they incorporate a diverse range of influences that create emotionally resonant soundscapes.

From the beginning, “Been Here Before” A Plot In You delivers these vibrant and spirited instrumental energies juxtaposed by raw-throated vocals that highlight the band’s versatility through subtle tonal changes that gradually build throughout the track, creating rich atmospheric layers that envelop its intense presence. Such a multi-dimensional experience dives into the next two tracks, both equally as intense, but in different creative measures.

“Pretend” and “Spare Me” continue to build the agitated and melancholic tension for the rest of the EP. Soaring clean and pained unclean vocals dance around a disquieting variance of swirling guitars and discomposed percussive energies, creating effective dissonance between both tracks. Something A Plot In You makes clear with many of their tracks, including these, is that they aren’t interested in pushing boundaries so much as they are focused on making you feel each experience.
