The Pack A.D.
It Was Fun While It Lasted
Fontana North
“It’s better to burn out than to fade away”, Neil Young sings in “My My, Hey Hey (Out of the Blue)”. The Pack A.D. have announced that this will be their last album. Perhaps not forever, but for now this is the final output from the Vancouver garage rock duo. Luckily for us they saved some of their greatest work for their finale.
Many of the album’s songs bring us the classic Pack sound of fuzz and driving drums. The difference this time seems to be a maturity in the songwriting and the delivery. Songs like “Shake”, “It’s Okay”, and “Change Kills” bring great melodies accompanied by tremendous guitar.
The real standouts on this album are the lead single “Give Up” and the radio ready “No Good”. The attack of the instruments immediately bring you front and centre with Becky Black’s vocals drawing you in for more.
If this is the last offering of The Pack A.D. then they are going out on top. Congrats on an amazing career to Becky Black and Maya Miller. Hopefully this isn’t a goodbye but more of a “see you later”.
