Sloppy Heads
Sometimes Just One Second
Shrimper Records
Brooklyn trio Sloppy Heads have been around since 2009 Β and have created their own underground scene that covers a wide musical palette seen through their seemingly sloppy, slop-rock concept.
Sounds a bit like Yo La Tengo, you say? It is no wonder that Yo La Tengo’s James McNew is involved in the recording of their latest effort Sometimes Just One Second.
In many ways, Sloppy Heads have a similar concept that is musically all over the place, but in no way sloppy unless you consider free-flowing and often noisy sounds as sloppy in the first place. The trio often incorporates the Grateful Dead jam rock concept, so it is no surprise that they cover The Dead’s “New Speedway Boogie ” here.
It is actually all spontaneous and well-thought-out music at the same time that works on more than one level throughout.
