Sloan
Steady
Murderecords/Universal Music
If currently there is a band/artist that is truly keeping the flame of power pop burning, not just in Canada but around the world, it is Toronto via Halifax magicians Sloan. Steady, their latest album, is yet another confirmation of that fact.
Many would say that nothing has changed much in the sound of the band that has been operating for 30 odd years now. Yet, there is an easy answer to that possible remark – so what?
Actually, what you do get to hear is a total refinement and bringing up to current times of that ‘pure’ power pop sound – great melodies that never falter, and that always exciting combination of crunching, but clear-sounding guitars and incredible harmonies.
It is simply the logical progression of that great, incredible sound The Beatles patented with “Help” and “Paperback Writer” and Sloan are one of those bands that keep on building up on that sound with music that measures up to the roots of power pop.
