Sea Lemon
Stop At Nothing
Luminelle Recordings
When twee pop phrase was coined sometime during the heyday of Sarah Records, not many reviewers thought that such a sound would turn into a full-fledged genre, at least not into one that will stick around for a while.
Yet, decades on, there are still bands that draw inspiration from such a sound, some sticking to its core, others adding other musical touches that take the whole genre into other realms. Based on their latest 5-song EP Stop At Nothing, we can easily add Seattleβs Sea Lemon into the latter category.
Behind the moniker is one Natalie Lew who enriches the twee pop melodic lines with all her obvious two other loves that co-existed at that same period in the late 80s and early 90s – dream pop and shoegaze. And while the genre influences can easily be heard, it is Lewβs ability to seamlessly integrate them into a sensible whole that makes her music work. At the same time, Lew has an intricate lyrical sense that fully enriches her music – she touches on quite a diverse number of themes that include some quite dark themes like horror movies and fear of death.
Essentially, Sea Lemon packs quite a punch both musically and lyrically within just five songs here.
