Welcome To Gerrard Square
Independent
I guess it would have been a legal hassle to use anything connected with Rayman, the Ubisoft video game character, for your fledgling band. Just a few guys hanging on the street on a sunny day will just have to suffice for this Toronto trio and their latest EP, Welcome to Gerrard Square.
I’m personally not familiar with the place, but Uncle Quin, Turtle Johnny, and Sweet Aaron Guy seem to try and find any element they can find to chill among the concrete. And judging by their new offering they are on the road to doing it! Slowish tempos, good melodies and vocals, and great guitar sound to match. You start with a “Welcome” and end up “In the Marshes.”
It is actually a really cool ride, something of a slightly speeded-up slowcore — or whatever you want to call it. It is simply a sound that’s hard to find these days, and these guys actually know how to handle it.
This album will make you relive what it is like in the concrete jungle on a hot summer day. This will prove useful come wintertime, too!
