PLANETTE AUTOMATIC
BLUE FASCINATION
BAD CATT RECORDS

Ok, two ways side projects can go – sideways or good ways. The former usually turns up when it is a vanity project of those involved, while the latter comes up when those involved feel the need that they have do sidestep from their main involvement and/or there is at least one artist/musician that is fully invested into what is going on.
Philadelphia’s Planette Automatic possibly has quite a combination of both – players for whom this is a side project and one fully involved artist. For Adam Shumsky and Dan Ryan, who are the drummer and guitarist of the NYC post punk band BODEGA, and bassist Sam Nobles from Mean, this might be a side project, but for lead singer / songwriter Katie Hackett, of The Poet KR, this just might be the main thing, as she drives forward the proceedings on the band’s debut album, Blue Fascination.
Like your old-fashioned vinyl LP, the album is a two-sided affair. What begins as a poppy, dancey record with “Dance Around,” turns into a full-blooded rock affair with tracks like “TERROR FORMING!”
Such an approach seems to be fitting for all involved as the band seem quite suited for both styles equally, and whether they decided to stick to one later on is yet to be seen or heard.
