PAUL SPRING
KIND OF HEAVEN
INDEPENDENT
Queens, NY-based songwriter and guitarist Paul Spring recorded his latest album, Kind Of Heaven, live in two days, with only two guests to accompany him, quite a feat.
With the help of drummer Jon Nellen and Nick Hakim, who adds a tinkering piano on “I’d Be Lying”, the album presents a truly full sound throughout.
To be able to do that, you really have to come up with some extra strong songwriting, and the fact that Spring has released three albums in the last three years doesn’t water his songwriting or performance down at all, with the likes of Bill Callahan and Okervill River coming in as references.
In 2015, he spent 48 days paddling 1200 miles down the Mississippi. It seems those long hours spent canoeing have been helpful in making Spring focus on his music.
