SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: NO WIN – DOWNEY

NO WIN

NO WIN
downey
Dangerbird Records

With only a short discography behind them, NO WIN has released their first full-length album titled downey. Most listeners may initially be drawn to the band when they hear Fidlar’s ex-drummer, Danny Nogueiras, is the leading member, but NO WIN’s sound is completely its own, and listeners are sure to stay for the emotive and poppy rock ’n’ roll.

The 10-track LP is filled with both angsty and classy overtones, and the contrasting themes wonderfully mesh to create enjoyable music for a wider demographic. The album remains lyrically zany and believable without going overboard or losing its sound quality, and this is why they feel so easy to move to and relate to. Songs like “Vision” and “Being Teen”, for example, work to bring their listeners to a spellbound state, as the alternating styles of rock will keep listeners constantly amused, and Nogueiras ability to translate his personal experiences into universal messages is exceptional.

downey is a pure and grounded album filled with energy, emotion, and a whole lot of fun. The album knows exactly what it wants to be, and it leaves its mark wonderfully and with excitement for the band’s future.
