When you learn a bit more about Katy Pinke who just released her debut self-titled album, it is easy to find out that you have a true artist on your hands. Along with developing her musical career (she recently opened for Jolie Holland and Laura Veirs among others and played as a member of Delicate Steve’s band), she is a visual artist with solo shows and participated in The New York City Poetry Festival.

Still, we are speaking about her debut album here, and her other artistic endeavors seem to reflect quite well on her music here. Pinke goes for the bare, simple approach, all songs recorded live in the studio with Pinke’s voice and guitar, very background drums and just a few flourishes here and there. It is quite a risky approach, as it leaves the artist bare and open to all possible lapses in music lyrics and everything else.

Yet, Pinke’s voice, and easy guitar notes fully complement her thoughtful lyrics, making this album quite touching and endearing.
