KACEY MUSGRAVES
MIDDLE OF NOWHERE
INTERSCOPE/LOST HIGHWAY/UNIVERSAL MUSIC CANADA

No, Kacey Musgraves is not your standard country musician anymore (if she ever was), no matter how quite a few listeners will think that her latest album Middle of Nowhere is taking you there. Actually, when you go a bit deeper into the album, from its multi-faced title to the music within, you will realize that she’s more in the vein of that McCartney classic “Here There and Everywhere.”
Sure, there are more country music elements on this album that one her previous three albums, but instead of simply going back to country as some might say (or sing), Musgraves has incorporated some standard country music elements into what she has been musically and lyrically building since her 2013 effort Same Trailer, Different Park – moving her music into other musical realms, whether it was your ‘standard’ pop or psychedelia (her Golden Hour album). Here, Musgraves just simply overturns the process– instead of incorporating other elements into country, she’s bringing country elements into the musical base she already built for herself.
