JAMES JONATHAN CLANCY
SPRECATO
MAPLE DEATH RECORDS

There are not that many nominally called singer songwriters that have the stamina and inventiveness to both run a record label that goes beyond their own work and record their own music. Listening to his latest album Sprecato, (wasted, squandered) in the case of Canadian/Italian artist James Jonathan Clancy you can just exclude that term possibly above.
Simply put, Clancy doesn’t take any musical route usually taken by most singer songwriters, but those that do and can take the routes less travelled – Scott Walker, Jeff Buckley and just a handful of others.
It is not just the dark overtones of his music and lyrics but the song structures, detailed, almost baroque (without the pop) arrangements that go into a multitude of musical directions. The quality of supporting musicians is on an equally high level to be able to complement Clancy’s complex musical structures. Nothing wasted or squandered here.
