Hozier
Unreal Unearth
Rubyworks Records
Hozier’s third studio album, spanning a remarkable 1 hour and 2 minutes, is destined for a place in the archives of music history. Its raw emotional depth resonates profoundly with listeners, evoking a more tender and vulnerable side within them. While it may be one of the lengthier albums to indulge in, not a single note falls short of perfection.
Although, I must admit it’s not an album I’d frequently seek out for casual listening, primarily because many of its tracks lean toward a mellower tempo. However, there are a handful of exceptional tracks—namely, “Eat Your Young”, “All Things End”, “First Time”, and “Francesca”—that have earned a permanent spot on the daily playlist. Among these, “All Things End” and “Francesca” stand out as hidden gems.
This album represents one of the most emotionally charged and unfiltered musical journeys I’ve experienced in quite some time. The inclusion of “Son of Nyx” serves as a delightful interlude, allowing listeners a moment to digest the emotions conveyed in the preceding tracks, preparing us to engage with the remaining songs with a fresh perspective.
Hozier’s genuine curiosity about the world around him permeates the album, providing a fascinating backdrop to his musical narrative.
