Hayden
Are We Good
Arts & Crafts
Hayden is definitely one of the more prolific artists out there. After all, it took him some eight years to come up with Are We Good, his latest album.
Yet one of the things the Toronto singer-songwriter has become is an institution with his fans, as well as with quite a number of other like-minded artists. The latter can be seen (and heard) on this album, as he partners here with The National’s Matt Berninger and Aaron Dessner, Feist, Big Thief drummer James Krivchenia, and actor Steve Buscemi.
What Are We Good shows is that Hayden has, on one hand, stepped out of his standard DIY credo, including some like-minded artists in his work. On the other, it also shows that he is an artist that is not standing still, but is constantly developing his arts and crafts, making this a true mature statement.
Still, even with co-writing credits with Berninger, this is definitely a Hayden album with his distinctive songwriting style and singing being the leading line here. The collaborations just add that extra touch, spice if you will, that definitely puts this album up as one of Hayden’s personal best.
