Finding your place among notable singer songwriters working within the Americana/country pop genre can get harder day by day, particularly when artists like Kasey Musgraves have set the standard bar so high.
You certainly need two essential qualities – exceptional songwriting and exceptional vocals. Good musicianship would certainly be welcome too.
Listening to Los Angeles artist Erinn Alissa’s latest EP, Restless, it becomes clear that she has these essential qualities. Both her songwriting and vocal skills are up with the best, combining all the elements that can characterize good Americana. From the country pop of opener “All That You Are”, the soulful “No Rest For That Woman”, to the singer songwriter, Americana style of “Gypsy Soul”.
Throughout, Erinn’s classically-trained voice shines through, with the instrumental backing rising up to the challenge of providing best-possible musicianship without burying her voice. Though she doesn’t have too many releases behind her so far, Restless is possibly an indicator that we will hear much more good stuff from her quite soon.
