SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: ENERGY SLIME – PLANET PERFECT

Energy Slime

ENERGY SLIME
PLANET PERFECT
WE ARE TIME

Coming up with picture perfect (or video/streaming perfect) pop these days is much harder to achieve as copycats (including AI) are hovering all around with something that sounds like chewing on an empty plastic cup.

Trying to rise above that is the Vancouver duo of Jay Arner and Jessica Delisle that go under the banner of Energy Slime with their debut album Planet Perfect.

On the face of it (the band name, album title, album cover), it all might seem incongruous at first, but when you dive into Energy Slime’s bubbly and at the same time refined pop that employs electro/acoustic combination with an excellent touch with some LCD Soundsystem-like lyrics that hide some heavy messages, you realize that there is some heavy stuff hidden behind those light-sounding juices Energy Slime employs here. It slips down easy but packs a heavy punch along the way.
