DEVIN SHAFFER
PATIENCE
American Dreams

Many artists these days start out by releasing music completely on their own, including recording their music wherever they could, without initially getting to a proper studio. That is exactly the way Devin Shaffer, a singer-songwriter who relocated from Chicago to New York, started out with her initial album.
There are so many obstacles when you start out that way, but now, for Patience, her second offering, Shaffer had the possibility to record in a proper studio.
She obviously had patience to do it, and luckily for Shaffer and the potential listeners, that patience paid off. The first thing you notice is Shaffer’s striking falsetto, somewhat reminiscent of Vashti Bunyan, and then her striking songwriting starts to sink in, carried through by both Shaffer and her high-quality musical support consisting of Lucy Liyou on piano, Sarah Galdes (L’Rain, Bartees Strange) on drums, Marilu Donovan (LEYA) on harp, and Mari Rubio (More Eaze) on pedal steel.
The result—some languid, quite calming, music that is coupled with some equally good introspective lyrics. Audience support should follow.
