CREATION REBEL
HOSTILE ENVIRONMENT
ON-U SOUND
Adrian Sherwood is not only one of the stalwarts, but also one of the true dub innovators. Anywhere. Back in 1978, Creation Rebel, now a full-fledged trio, were first production project, and after some 40 years, after their previous album, Hostile Environment, is the new Sherwood/Creation Rebel project.
Up until now, Sherwood and Creation Rebel have come up with a series of recordings that form a true reggae/dub legacy that inspired so many artists, including those that actually worked in other genres. So how does Hostile Environment fit into that legacy? Frankly, it fits just perfectly. The record features three original Creation Rebel members, as well as a series of guests and musically, it not only covers the best elements Sherwood and the band previously created, but brings in new ones, bringing it up fully to the current music scene.
And as Sherwood explains, the album title is the term that UK Prime Minister Theresa May used to describe creating a hostile environment for people seeking refuge and asylum, one of the backdrops to the shocking Windrush scandal that has affected so many Caribbean families who have lived and worked in the UK for their whole lives, making its content as current as it could be.
