There’s always a specific feel to artists releasing their music through Kranky Records, but also a very individual take on that specific feel.

There’s no exception to that ‘rule’ with Only Hinting, the debut album by Clinic Stars, the duo consisting of Giovanna Lenski and Christian Molik. The duo seems so adept at creating a musical atmosphere that takes time to develop, leaving open spaces in their music that is so integral to it.

Their take on all things slowcore—from downer pop to a lighter shade of shoegaze works so well here, maybe due to the duo’s musical intelligence, maybe because it took them two years to slowly develop the eight songs here.

Whatever the case is, their music has that easy-flowing, natural feel that makes it so easy on the ear and such a late-night delight that it is.
