Toronto singer-songwriter Clara Engel (they/them) says that they are not writing the same song over and over so much as writing one long continuous song that will end when they die.

Dark? Sure, but the point is it a dark element in music that is there just for its own sake or is it something that an organic part of the music that an artist creates and something the potential audience can relate to?

In Engel’s case, and the case of their latest album Sanguinaria it is surely the latter. Actually, it seems that Engle has a meticulous songwriting process that pays attention to every note and every word that is included in a singular song.

And with the songwriting talent Engel has, it is bound to work the way the artist intended.

So, the listeners end up here with a set of 12 dark, brooding, slowly evolving songs that end up having a mesmerizing effect on them and ultimately makes them think about what Engel has to say.
