BIRDFEEDER
WOODSTOCK
SOUL SELECTS
You don’t get any socials for seemingly anonymous Birdfeeder. Frankly, you don’t really need them as this is a sort of a left-field supergroup playing some laid-back (well, not all the time), brilliant stuff recorded in the cabin you see on the cover, located, as the album title says in Woodstock.
Those following the very broad category that goes as indie rock will most probably be familiar with all three names involved in this project – Mark Mulcalhy was the main man behind the great Miracle Legion, Chris Harford in Boston’s 3 Colors and few other projects, and Kevin Salem was involved with quite a few, including Dumptruck, played with Yo La Tengo, and is now doing mainly production work (including this one).
Woodstock is one of those mostly spontaneous projects, that is mainly based on the best elements each involved artist brings along, with as little preparation as possible, after all, this whole album was recorded in a day and a half.
Such projects are often so see-through that those involved have nowhere to hide – yet the quality of the music here is so good, that neither of three birdfeeders need to.
