SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: AVA McCOY- DRAGONFLY

Ava McCoy

AVA McCOY
DRAGONFLY
ACROPHASE RECORDS

As a singer songwriter, how do you fit Pacific Northwest countryside (Oregon, to be precise) along with New York City as a somewhat stark contrast? Ava McCoy seems to be able to do that on her latest album Dragonfly without flinching.

It might sound like a tricky affair, but McCoy is able to do that by musically sticking to what singer songwriter genre offers when you are an imaginative artist – she brings in musical touches that you can loosely call ‘the sound of the city’ (like she does on the title track here) without disrupting the overall acoustically-inclined sound putting the focus on the lyrics and her excellent voice.

As simple as this might sound when written down it is very hard to achieve in the studio, but McCoy has some excellent songwriting lines to offer here and her vocal delivery is exactly what those lines desire.
