AL HARPER
THE ANALEMMA OBSERVATION LEAGUE
TAKE A TURN RECORDS
How do you distinguish yourself from other artists that are working within the ‘standard’ folk/pop realm that is so prominent these days. Well, one way to do it is come up with an intriguing album title. San Francisco’s Al Harper gave her latest album the title of The Analemma Observation League.
So, what is an analemma after all? It is the shape the sun makes in the sky when seen from the same spot every day for a year that ends up looking like a figure 8 when observed from a static place on Earth.
Yet, with Harper’s album it is not just a title that you end up looking up what it means – it is Harper’s very light melodic touch and equally melodic vocals that lead the way combined with some seriously intricate arrangements that make this album an excellent listen, and yes you both hear and see that figure 8 from the analemma Harper refers to here.
