How easy is it for a prospective singer songwriter these days to make it, particularly if they are just releasing their debut offering? Listeners could only guess all that is involved in such a process, and the question could easily be turned into another one that starts with how hard it is.

Yet, what can separate from a multitude of others should be (although it not always is) the quality of your music, or something unique within it (possibly both), and being often limited to an EP, in case of a newcomer Emma Harmer, her 5-song debut EP Taking My Side, it makes your possibilities even harder to come by.

But Harmer has something here that distinguishes her from most of those multitudes – a refined sense of songwriting that has unique elements that remind of higher echelons of singer songwriter corps, and an equally unique voice tone that adds another distinguishing element to her music. Should you take Emma Harmer’s side? Definitely.
