MIKE POLIZZE
AROUND SOUND
PARADISE OF BACHELORS

The name of Philadelphia’s Mike Polizze might be a name familiar to those following all things modern psych, as he is a member of psych purveyors Purling Hiss and Birds of Maya, now coming up with his second solo album under a fuzzy title of Around Sound.
That around thing just might refer to the dominating sound of Polizze’s acoustic guitar picking throughout this album, and quite languid, easygoing songwriting and Polizze’s equally easygoing vocals.
Such a concept can easily be quite deceptive, as it could lead to sameishness and boredom, but by taking a route somewhere between Grateful Dead’s great acoustic albums from early 70s and what David Grubbs and Jim O’Rourke did on Gastr del Sol’s brilliant album Camoufleur, Polizze escapes both sameishness and boredom, coming up with some delicately detailed music that works on practically all levels. So, where’s that other stuff he’s done?
