After her debut album Teeth Marks from 2022, winning ‘a few’ awards, and some serious and long-running set of concerts, Kentucky’s brilliant Americana artist S.G. Goodman is back with a new album Planting by the Signs, this time around going independent. So, a sophomore slump, or did Goodman gather steam for some more goodies?

Luckily for Goodman and an ever-spreading circle of fans gathered in these three years, Goodman has definitely gathered some musical steam, so easily heard in the 11 songs here. Stylistically, no big changes, after all, there was no need for those, but the level of the songwriting has gone up a few notches, both lyrically and musically, so has the level of arrangements, pushing Goodman’s excellent vocals to the foreground and letting her lyrics shine even more.

The gruelling tour schedule seems to have done wonders for the quality of Goodman’s music and performance, telling us all that even better things are yet to come.
