SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: LETTERS FROM TAYLOR – STILL ASKING

Letters From Taylor

LETTERS FROM TAYLOR
STILL ASKING
INDEPENDENT

It is a bold move to have your debut EP with two prominent covers right up front. It might indicate that you don’t have much faith in your originals. Yet, that is not a worry that Calgary, Ab trio Letters from Taylor should have about their debut 7-song EP, Still Asking.

The thing is that Jenna Caspell (vocals, guitar), Charity Adlington (vocals). Daniel Pelton (guitar, vocals), not only do a great job with the covers—”Sweet Child O’ Mine” and “All Along The Watchtower”—but have originals here that boast some very good to excellent songwriting and even better vocals, with the brief instrumental featuring a classical string trio being just a musical curve ball to set the scene.

The reasons that make this debut release works so well may lie in the fact that all three members have extensive musical experience, from academic music studies to choral directing, to open mic jam sessions, wrapping them all up together so nicely here.
