1000 VARIATIONS ON THE SAME SONG

New York’s Frog is one of those musical propositions that through their not so short and winding career never stood still or bothered where the critics or audience will place and label their music.
For quite a few artists, that approach is often a curse, but for Frog it seems to have been a blessing, because their process of making music seems to be more intuitive than intentional in the sense that main songwriter Daniel Bateman and whoever is involved with Frog at the moment, just bring elements into their music that just seem to fit and get going with it.
As Bateman notes: “1000 Variations on the Same Song is a theme and variations—there are times in your life as a songwriter where you’ll start a bunch of stuff that all sounds alike, which can be a problem, something that you want to excise from yourself. This time I decided to embrace it and take it as far as it could go.”
Whatever he and the band have done this time around, it just worked like a charm. Period.
